Steelers DT Cam Heyward avoids ejection after punch

Cam Heyward lost his cool and it will cost him.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has been beaten up by the Los Angeles Chargers all game long. You can see the frustration in the Steelers players as they cannot find any answers for slowing down the Chargers offense. That frustration came to a head for defensive tackle Cam Heyward midway through the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert has gashed the Steelers on the ground all night and I think Heyward had just had enough. In a move the officials missed, Heyward throws a punch and connects with Herbert after tackling the quarterback after a long run. This is a play that really should have gotten Heyward ejected and will at minimum cost Heyward some money after the NFL reviews it.

Steelers G J.C. Hassenauer OUT with shoulder injury

Pittsburgh is down another offensive lineman already.

An already thin Pittsburgh Steelers line just got thinner. J.C. Hassenauer was filling in for Kevin Dotson against the Los Angeles Chargers and now, thanks to a shoulder injury he is out as well.

Veteran Joe Haeg should be the guy to come in and replace Hassenauer but this is just one more hit to a team that cannot afford any more injuries.

The Steelers trail the Chargers 14-3 late in the first half.

Steelers announce multiple roster moves including Kevin Dotson to IR

Pittsburgh is sending Kevin Dotson to IR.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

On Saturday the Pittsburgh Steelers announced a handful of roster moves in advance of their game with the Los Angeles Chargers. The move of note is placing guard Kevin Dotson on the Reserve/Injured list.

The Steelers officially announced they had activated quarterback Ben Roethlisberger from the Reserve/COVID-19 list and it is expected he will play this week. Roethlisberger missed last week’s tie with the Detroit Lions.

Pittsburgh also elevated safety Karl Joseph as well as defensive linemen Daniel Archibong and linebacker Delonte Scott from the practice squad to the active roster. All three will revert back to the practice squad immediately after the game and will not pass through waivers.

Dotson to IR means he will have to be on the list for a minimum of three weeks. He can then be activated and the team will have 21 days to remove him from the list and place him on the 53-man roster or he would miss the remainder of the season. Dotson suffered an ankle injury in last week’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Chargers EDGE Joey Bosa activated, expects to play

The Chargers plan to have their best pass rusher on the field on Sunday.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Chargers will have their best pass rusher on Sunday when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Edge rusher Joey Bosa had been on the Reserve/COVID-19 list but will be activated and is expected to play.

For anyone asking why an unvaccinated player can come off of the COVID list so quickly, it is because Bosa never tested positive. Whereas Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick both had positive tests, Bosa was simply a close contact.

Head coach Mike Tomlin praised Bosa heavily this week and called him a game-wrecker. Los Angeles still has multiple defensive players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and could be without defensive tackles Linval Joseph, Christian Covington and Jerry Tillery.

Steelers vs Chargers: Will Ben Roethlisberger play vs Los Angeles?

The Steelers are waiting to see if Ben Roethlisberger can join the team for this week’s game.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Saturday afternoon the Pittsburgh Steelers will fly across the country to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. But the team won’t know if starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is going to be able to join them until shortly before take-off.

Roethlisberger has spent the last week on the Reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive last Saturday. Big Ben has been working with the coaches via Zoom and playing shouldn’t be an issue in terms of preparation. This is assuming the COVID-19 test he takes today comes back negative.

If Rothlisberger cannot go again this week it will be a second-straight start for Mason Rudolph.

The Steelers have a much better chance of getting the season back on track is Roethlisberger plays but this situation is entirely outside of the team’s control. But we wanted to ask you all, do you think Roethlisberger will get his negative test and be able to play on Sunday.

Steelers vs Chargers: Pittsburgh’s keys to victory this week

The Steelers must take better care of the football and tackle better to stop the Chargers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to get back to their winning ways on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team is decimated with injuries and even on Saturday aren’t sure if starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be able to make the trip.

Nevertheless, this is still a winnable game and here are our keys.

Najee Harris has the solution for the Steelers red-zone woes: ‘Just run the ball’

Can the Steelers just run the ball more if Najee Harris is the only guy who can do it?

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

There will always be times when the playcalling by the Pittsburgh Steelers won’t work and it will be a talking point for the fans. This happened in last week’s tie with the Detroit Lions when the Steelers opted to throw the ball near the goal line rather than run it with rookie sensation Najee Harris.

On Friday, Harris was asked about how to fix the problems in the red zone and he kept it simple. “Just run the ball, I guess. I guess that’d fix a lot of things.”

But is it really that simple? Everyone wants the Steelers to run the football more but using last week as an example, who exactly does that happen? We read 50 pass attempts by quarterback Mason Rudolph and assume something went wrong but Harris had 26 carries on his own.

Harris leads the league in total touches and has had 20 or more touches in seven games. That’s a ridiculous workload for a rookie. Pittsburgh has to find ways to generate offense consistently without including Harris in the mix if the team doesn’t want him to break down.
