According to the NFL transactions wire, former Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Quincy Roche has been claimed off waivers by the New York Giants.
The Steelers had opted to cut Roche in their final round of cutdowns and instead keep undrafted edge rusher Jamir Jones. There’s no denying Jones had a more productive preseason but you have to wonder if the Steelers were banking on Roche slipping through the cracks and landing back with Pittsburgh on their practice squad.
Pittsburgh selected Roche in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Miami and the pick looked like a steal at the time. However, Pittsburgh took a calculated risk and missed on this one. Instead the Steelers opted to keep an extra inside linebacker when the reality was no one was going to claim a guy like Ulysees Gilbert III off of waivers instead.
The Steelers were rewarded no players off of this initial round of waiver claims.
