Vince Williams says Steelers are ready to ‘whack the next opponent over the head’

Vince Williams has some fun over last year’s brawl.

If you want the truth, just talk to Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Vince Williams. No player tells it like it is the way Williams does. Whenever he’s speaking to the press, we all listen because you just never know what he’s going to say.

On Friday, Williams spoke to the media and he did not disappoint. Williams was asked about the fiasco from last season involving Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.

But Williams wasn’t having it. He’s all about the game.

“We’re completely past it,” Williams said. “I don’t really think we pay attention to it. We just know we have to go out there and whack the next opponent over the head.”

This is what it’s all about. What happened last season is over and done and it is all about holding onto that lead in the AFC North. And if it means whacking some Browns over the head (but not with their own helmet) so be it.

Steelers vs Browns: Is the Browns injury report just gamesmanship?

The Browns injury report is rather puzzling.

[jwplayer oj0hm90f-ThvAeFxT]

The Cleveland Browns put out their injury report for this week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and it really has to make you wonder just what is going on.

According to ESPN reporter Jake Trotter, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield, and starting wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. are all listed as questionable for this week’s game. Mayfield suffered a rib injury last week but said after the game he was planning to play against the Steelers.

The availability of these three players, especially Mayfield is significant on multiple levels. If you are the Steelers coaches you simply prepare assuming this is just gamesmanship but the Browns and prepare as if all players will be on the field on Sunday.

But if this happens and these guys don’t play it will mean Pittsburgh will have to make some adjustments in-game, especially to account for quarterback Case Keenum.

Do you expect to see these Browns on the field on Sunday or is this a legitimate injury issue for Cleveland? Let us know in the comments below.

Browns HC Kevin Stefanski says Myles Garrett has ‘grown as a person’

People are still talking about Myles Garrett including the Browns HC.

[jwplayer oj0hm90f-ThvAeFxT]

Cleveland Browns new head coach Kevin Stefanski wasn’t around last season for the madness when the Steelers and Browns squared off the first time. Nevertheless, the confrontation between Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is on everyone’s mind this week as the two teams prepare to square off again on Sunday.

When Stefanski was asked about the incident he offered up a comment that I couldn’t just let go. Stefanski said that Garrett had grown as a person. This is a fascinating angle given how Garrett tried to turn this incident into something it wasn’t and portray himself as some sort of victim after the fact.

The bottom line is Garrett lost his cool, did something really stupid and then after the dust settled said something even dumber to try and destroy the character of a man to make himself look innocent and play the victim role.

Thankfully this game is going to be all about football from a Steelers point of view. Pittsburgh is holding onto a slim lead in the AFC North and cannot afford to let this one get past them.

Browns RB Kareem Hunt declares, ‘This one’s for Myles’

Browns running back offers odd commentary on Myles Garrett.

You can’t think about a matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers without thinking about what happened last season. In the Steelers first game of the season against the Browns in 2019, an ugly melee broke out with only eight seconds left that culminated in Browns defensive end Myles Garrett assaulting Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet.

According to Browns running back Kareem Hunt, they are using this event as something of a rallying cry in support of Garrett.

“This one’s for Myles,” Hunt said. “This one’s for Cleveland. This one’s for a lot of things. We have Myles’ back and he has ours.”

Ignoring the fact that Hunt is probably the last person who should be the voice of what is right and good in the world, the notion of portraying Garrett as some sort of victim in any of what happened last season is asinine.

It wasn’t enough how egregious Garrett’s actions on the field were but his blatant attempt to falsely inject a racial component into it after the effect to try and slander Rudolph was even worse.

Thankfully on the Steelers side, this is a non-issue. When head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about it, he responded exactly the way you would expect from a coach of his caliber.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger says he’ll get a fake Heisman made to fit in the AFC North

Roethlisberger jokes about the Heisman Trophy winners in his division.

The AFC North might have the best group of four quarterbacks in the NFL this season. We can argue who the best is but the first one who is going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

However, one area where Roethlisberger falls short compared to his AFC North peers is in the area of the Heisman Trophy. All three other quarterbacks in the division have won the trophy, but the former Miami(OH) Redhawk can have some fun with it.

“I’m going to have a fake Heisman made so all four of us can have them,” Roethlisberger joked.

I’m sure Roethlisberger is happier having those Lombardi Trophies instead anyway. Roethlisberger gets his first Heisman winner this weekend when the Steelers welcome the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Baker Mayfield to Heinz Field in the biggest game of the season for the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin calls Myles Garrett a ‘freakish talent’

The Steelers are going to have their hands full with Garrett on Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns have always left a bad taste in Steelers fans’ mouths, especially when thinking of the act Myles Garrett pulled in Week 12 last season.

But there’s no denying it — the Browns star EDGE is, as head coach Mike Tomlin called him, a “freakish talent.”

Since entering the league in 2017, Garrett has taken the league and the edge position by storm. He has amassed 36.5 sacks (34 total pressures), nine forced fumbles, 75 quarterback hits and 119 tackles (35 for loss).

Garrett currently leads all EDGE rushers in sacks (6) and forced fumbles (3).

Karl Joseph, the safety Tomlin coveted in the 2016 NFL Draft, was placed on injured reserve in August with a lingering foot injury he sustained in Oakland last season. Joseph recently suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of last week’s Browns-Colts matchup. He’s currently questionable for Sunday’s game, but it’s still too early to tell whether he’ll be on the field.

Joseph, a former first-rounder (Oakland Raiders), signed with the Browns in free agency this offseason. He has an interception and 23 tackles.

Contenders or pretenders? The Steelers will know soon

The Steelers toughest three-game stretch of the season starts now.

The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers started the season 4-0 was 1979. And for those of us old enough to remember, things turned out pretty well for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh is currently off to another 4-0 start in 2020 and is one of only five remaining undefeated teams in the NFL. However, critics continue to point at the fact the Steelers four opponents are combined for only three total wins on the season.

This fairly raises some doubt as to just how good this team is in the grand scheme of things. The situation is made more complicated when you consider even in those four wins, Pittsburgh has not played dominant football against some inept teams.

But things will be settled in the next three weeks. Pittsburgh faces a three-game gauntlet which should either quiet the critics completely or given them all the ammunition they need to bury him completely.

This week the Steelers welcome the 4-1 Cleveland Browns to Pittsburgh and will be the first big test of the season. But this is just the beginning. The Steelers have to follow that game up with a two-game road stand against the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. Their combined schedule right now is 11-2.

But I want to pass the question off to all of you. Are the Steelers contenders or pretenders?

Browns QB Baker Mayfield confident he’ll play against the Steelers: ‘Mamma didn’t raise no wuss’

Baker Mayfield injured his ribs on Sunday but wants to play against Pittsburgh.

In the Cleveland Browns 32-23 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a rib injury late in the fourth quarter. But according to Mayfield he is planning to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, because as he put it “mamma didn’t raise no wuss.”

The truth is Mayfield is scheduled to have an x-ray on Monday and we will know more about his availability. Mayfield seems to have re-captured his groove from his rookie season and has the Browns sitting at 4-1. Mayfield had arguably his worst game of the season on Sunday and still threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

But the fact of the matter is if Mayfield is a little dinged up this week, it’s only going to get worse on Sunday. No team hits the quarterback as much as the Steelers do. They sacked Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz five times on Sunday and has 20 sacks in four games.
