Castmates Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff were the most excited for each other’s first Tony win

Everybody needs a friendship like Radcliffe and Groff have.

Heading into the 2024 Tony Awards, neither Daniel Radcliffe nor long-time Broadway star Jonathan Groff had ever taken home one of the coveted trophies for their efforts on the stage. That changed on Sunday night as both heard their names called for their respective roles in the revived hit Merrily We Roll Along.

Radcliffe, the former Harry Potter star, was first to take to the stage as he won for Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. His gracious speech had the room feeling emotional, none more than Groff.

Shortly after, it was Groff’s turn. The Hamilton and Glee star had been performing on stage since 2006 and was previously nominated twice — Spring Awakening and Hamilton — without hearing his name called.

It was a completely heartwarming affair with both men being so utterly thrilled for their friends.

Radcliffe didn’t shy away from his opinions on wanting Groff to win, jokingly (we think) threatening to burn the place down if his castmate didn’t take home the award. On the red carpet, he walked it back a little about the arson, but not about the sentiment.

Get yourself a friend that supports you the way these two do.
