Carolina Panthers Super Bowl odds: Heavy underdogs in banner hunt

Assessing the midseason Super Bowl futures odds for the Carolina Panthers, with a look at their odds to win the NFC South.

The Carolina Panthers (3-5) are a feisty team no one’s pushing over but it’s going to be an uphill battle for the Panthers to contend for a division or Super Bowl LV title. Carolina could be more of a threat for a Wild Card berth with Pro Bowl RB Christian McCaffrey nearing a return from injury.

Below, we analyze the midseason 2020 Carolina Panthers Super Bowl odds, odds of winning their division as well as NFL futures and opine on whether they’re worth a Super Bowl futures bet at this time.

The goalposts have figuratively shifted on Carolina’s 2020 regular season expectations after a three-game winning streak momentarily had the Panthers above .500. Also, it would appear Carolina will not be as bad as BetMGM‘s 5.5-win 2020 regular-season projection for the Panthers suggested.

Despite trending to outperform expectations, the Panthers are priced at +20000 to win the Super Bowl, which is double the payout from their preseason line of +10000.

Carolina has lost its past two games to fall below .500 but QB Teddy Bridgewater has provided solid quarterback play in his first season with the team. WRs D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson look like bonafide weapons and the Panthers are eighth in yards per play.

Carolina’s newness and weakness in high leverage positions contribute to its low ceiling. The Panthers are 26th in red-zone (touchdown) conversion percentage and 31st in opponent’s 3rd down conversion percentage.

Panthers division betting odds

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers -189
  • New Orleans Saints +135
  • Carolina Panthers +15000
  • Atlanta Falcons +25000

No-go on taking the Panthers to capture an NFC South title. Carolina has the third-toughest remaining schedule, according to Football Outsiders. Also, you can tell by the odds it’s a two-horse race in the NFC South and the Panthers have already dropped both of their opening games to the division favorites.

Panthers futures picks and predictions

Panthers fans should be a little humbled by BetMGM‘s price point for their team to win a division or Super Bowl title. Carolina is 4-4 against the spread and has played in one-score games with three winning teams yet are still priced alongside the NFL’s laughing stocks.

Even I cannot talk myself into taking a flyer on Carolina winning the Super Bowl and I bet OVER Panthers 5.5 regular-season wins. If the Panthers snuck into the playoffs, they’d have to win all road games in a conference stacked with Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. PASS ON CAROLINA’S SUPER BOWL FUTURE.
