Carolina Panthers RB Dillon Johnson has a strong showing against the New York Jets

Washington Huskies RB Dillon Johnson scored his first career NFL touchdown.

After a tumultuous offseason that included getting released by the Tennessee Titans and recovering from multiple injuries he sustained at the end of the 2023 season with the Washington Huskies, Dillon Johnson crossed an important career mark on Saturday with the Carolina Panthers.

He scored his first career NFL touchdown as part of a strong performance against the Carolina Panthers. Johnson found the end zone from two yards away at the end of the fourth quarter in a 15-12 loss to the New York Jets in the preseason, and the former All-Pac-12 second-team honoree also led all rushers with 83 yards on 18 carries.

The former Husky is pushing for a spot on the roster, and as coach Dave Canales looks to make cuts as he narrows his team down to 53 players ahead of the August 27 deadline, and Johnson seems to have a decent shot to make the team.

Carolina placed second-round pick Jonathan Brooks on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL he suffered during the 2023 season at Texas. With a strong performance in the Panthers’ final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Johnson could make the roster ahead of other potential suitors Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone.
