Caris LeVert had some strong performances when he first returned from his right thumb injury, but his shooting percentages were up-and-down and his scoring totals started to suffer as a result.
Throughout January, LeVert averaged 11.5 points per game on 35.1% shooting (31.9% from 3-point territory). He bottomed out in Brooklyn’s win over Chicago when he scored three points on 1-for-5 shooting.
Then, LeVert started February off with a six-point night. But then he has since taken off.
LeVert has scored 20 or more points in each of Brooklyn’s last three games. He tied his career-high 29 points in the Nets’ win over the Phoenix Suns, and blew past that mark with his 37-point night against the Toronto Raptors.
Although LeVert’s strong showing in Toronto didn’t lead to a win, his continued stretch of strong play is a sign the wing is feeling good, both physically and mentally. It’s more of a step in the right direction, rather than a moral victory.
Because scoring 37 points is no small feat. Especially against the Raptors.
LeVert’s scoring output on Saturday is the best ever by a Brooklyn player in a matchup against the Raptors. The last Net to score that many points against Toronto was Vince Carter (New Jersey) when he scored 39 back in a 2008 meeting.
The only other Net to ever score more against the Raptors than LeVert, besides Carter, was Richard Jefferson (38 in December of 2004).
