Getting traded is never an ideal situation unless you’re the player asking for it. But for former Michigan basketball standout Caris LeVert, perhaps a change of scenery will help put him on the national map that much more.
LeVert has been excellent playing guard for the Brooklyn Nets, the team that drafted him five years ago. He went from averaging 8-points a game his rookie season to 18.5 this year and last year. He’s been on the verge of becoming a star in the NBA the past few seasons, but now, he’s on the move, out of Barclay’s Center, a key component in the blockbuster trade for James Harden.
Now, LeVert is a Houston Rocket, and will have a chance to help turn around a struggling team.
Reporting w/ @RamonaShelburne: Brooklyn’s acquiring James Harden in a three-way deal with Cleveland. Caris LeVert, Dante Exum, Rodions Kurucs, four 1st round picks – including Cavs’ 2022 first via Bucks — and 4 Nets pick swaps to Rockets. Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince to Cavs. https://t.co/qM0ZDH4dH3

With Harden out and LeVert in, he’ll have the chance to team up with some solid players such as John Wall, Christian Wood and DeMarcus Cousins. While it’s sad to see LeVert leave the team he’s been with for four-plus seasons, perhaps a fresh start in a new market will help him become more of a household name from a national perspective.
Update:
LeVert may not end up landing in Houston after all.
The Indiana Pacers are moving Victor Oladipo to the Rockets for package around Caris LeVert, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
