The Arizona Cardinals will get a look at their rookies — draft picks and undrafted free agents — for the first time this weekend on the field. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they will hold their rookie minicamp.
It will feature their draft picks, undrafted rookies, tryout players and perhaps some of the lesser experienced players on their roster.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon detailed recently what his goals and expectations are for rookie camp.
“Just like what we’ve been doing out on the grass (with the veterans), get them comfortable with how we operate in this building, so we’re going to set that standard,” he told reporters the week after the draft. “Then basically get them out on the grass and kind of start introducing techniques, schemes and get them to know where everything is in the building. How we chose to do it is once they get here, they’re going to stay and they’ll be submerged with the vets, which was important for me.”
Next week, the Cardinals will finish up Phase 2 of their offseason program and, the following week, hold their first set of voluntary OTAs (organized team activities) for the final phase of spring work.
“It’s a new strength program, it’s a new recovery program, it’s a new scheme, and it’s a new installation,” Gannon explained. “We’ll make sure that we get done with what we need to get done with them but keep them mentally fresh as well because they’ve been going a long time now.”
