Cardinals’ offseason ranked as one of league’s best

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell ranks their offseason eighth in the league.

The Arizona Cardinals have made a number of improvements in the offseason and it has been noticed. They are viewed as having had one of the best offseasons in the entire NFL.

According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, they had the eighth-best offseason.

They were praised for acquiring DeAndre Hopkins and unloading David Johnson’s contract. They were praised for drafting Isaiah Simmons.

Barnwell doesn’t love the Cardinals’ defensive additions, as they paid Devon Kennard more than he was going to get paid by the Detroit Lions, who cut him and were bad on defense last season. He doesn’t like the voided years they created for their signings, using future cap space. He calls it “poor management.”

He is not as bullish about the addition Jordan Phillips, De’Vondre Campbell and Devon Kennard as many are, and he questions counting on D.J. Humphries at tackle and Robert Alford at cornerback.

The proof will be in their play in 2020.

There is no doubt that the talent on defense is better than last year. Hopkins adds a new dimension to the passing game. The Cardinals are certainly an improved team, it will just be a matter of whether it will be enough to compete in the NFC.
