The Arizona Cardinals will not be a last-place team in 2024. The San Francisco 49ers, with their 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions Monday night, locked in their spot in the division cellar.
The 49ers are 6-10. The Cardinals are 7-9, but even with a San Francisco win, tying the two teams at 7-10, the Cardinals own the tiebreaker.
How? They will have split their season series. They both would be 2-4 in the division. But the Cardinals have five wins to the Niners’ four in common games.
That’s how.
It is the first time since 2020 that the Niners finish in last place in the NFC West.
The Cardinals end a two-year streak of being in last place in the division.
