The Arizona Cardinals have liked what they have seen from center Hjalte Froholdt and have decided to keep him around. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Froholdt and the Cardinals have agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping him under contract through 2026.
Per Rapoport, the deal is worth $12 million and included $8 million guaranteed.
Froholdt has been in the league since 2019, drafted by the New England Patriots in 2019 in the fourth round.
He spent time with the Houston Texans on their practice squad in 2021 and then landed with the Cleveland Browns, finishing 2021 and playing 2022, playing in 23 games, starting six.
He signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals last year and became the starting center, starting every game and only missing a few snaps all year.
Now he is signed for three more seasons including this year.
He has turned out to be one of the most underrated signings the Cardinals have made since Monti Ossenfort became general manager, and it gives them stability at center for a few more years.
He was scheduled to make $2.48 million in salary this season with up to $255,000 in per-game roster bonuses. His cap hit was going to be $3.79 million. We will find out in the days to come the full details of the deal.
