The Arizona Cardinals were a top-10 team in early power rankings to start the season, as they won their first two games. However, they had a disappointing 26-23 loss at home to the previously winless Detroit Lions and quarterback Kyler Murray threw three interceptions.
With the loss, the Cardinals dropped a little in power rankings.
In Nate Davis’ new rankings for USA TODAY, the Cardinals fall just out of the top 10, dropping four spots to No. 11 overall after the loss.
A wakeup call might not be the worst thing for a team that’s weathered sloppy play. Only five teams have more turnovers than Arizona’s five.
The Cardinals have a three-game road stretch coming up. The next two should be winnable games against the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets. Then they face the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, another game where they could put up lots of points.
This past loss is, hopefully, just a hiccup.
But a 2-1 start is more or less what most expected the Cardinals to be after three games anyway. The next few games will be critical in knowing the type of team they will be in 2020.
