Cardinals don’t expect to be as active on waiver wire after final cuts

Kliff Kingsbury likes where the roster is at and they don’t have the top priority on waiver claims like they did a year ago.

Last year, after they made final cuts, they still had a lot of turnover. They had the No. 1 priority on waiver claims and ended up bringing in five players — defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard, cornerback Kevin Peterson, safety Charles Washington and offensive linemen Justin Murray and Brett Toth.

This year, they do not have that top waiver claim priority and also are much more comfortable with the talent on the roster.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t anticipate as many waiver claims but also did not rule it out.

“I would think there’s always a possibility, but last year we claimed quite a few players and, just given the current circumstances, I would think it would be less,” he told reporters on Thursday.

He added, “with the protocols and things of that nature, it could be a little more challenging this year.”

That said, that doesn’t mean they won’t put in a waiver claim or two.

“If there are people out there that we think make our roster better, we will be aggressive,” he said. “We like where we’re at roster-wise and we’ll definitely take a look what’s out there.”

They still have a fairly high waiver priority — No. 8 overall — but by default, they probably will end up with fewer players this year.
