The Arizona Cardinals want to add a pass rusher opposite of Chandler Jones this offseason. Free agency might be tough to add anyone who can make a real impact.
According to The Athletic’s Scott Bordow, supposed chatter around the NFL combine is that the Cardinals could look at a pass rusher in the second round of the draft.
As we noted on our podcast episode after the combine, this is an interesting approach because the edge defender draft class is fairly weak. After Chase Young, expected to go second overall, there aren’t many sure things for becoming top pass rushers.
Bordow names Boise State’s Curtis Weaver and Michigan’s Josh Uche as possibilities.
According to Draft Wire’s player rankings for edge defenders, Weaver is ranked sixth and Uche is ranked 11th.
Other players who could come into play are Iowa’s A.J. Epenesa, Alabama’s Terrell Lewis and Wisconsin’s Zach Baun.
The last time the Cardinals drafted a pass rusher in the second round, they got Markus Golden in 2015. He worked out fairly well.
Depending on what happens in free agency, it will be a position to pay attention to as the NFL draft approaches,
