The Carolina Panthers claimed Trenton Cannon off waivers from the Jets Tuesday just a day after he was cut by New York.
Cannon was a sixth-round draft choice out of Virginia State by the Jets in 2018. In his rookie season, Cannon played in all 16 games as a backup running back and special teams player. He rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown and had 20 total yards on kick returns. Cannon also had 144 receiving yards as well. As a gunner, Cannon recorded nine tackles.
In 2019, Cannon was limited to four games due to foot and ankle injuries. He had 96 kick return yards to go along with three tackles and a fumble recovery as a gunner.
Cannon is now the second player from the Jets’ 2018 draft that is no longer with the organization. The other is CB Parry Nickerson.
