Candlestick Chronicles: Rewatching when 49ers-Seahawks rivalry began

The 49ers and Seahawks rivalry really took off on Christmas Eve, 2011.

The 49ers and Seahawks’ rivalry didn’t begin right when Seattle entered the NFC West in 2002. It’s since grown into perhaps the fiercest rivalry in the division, and at one time was among the NFL’s best head-to-head showdowns. There’s a specific game that can be circled as the catalyst for that rivalry — Week 16 of the 2011 season.

Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee and Kyle Madson rewatched that Christmas Eve matchup between the 49ers and Seahawks for the newest episode of Candlestick Chronicles.

It was a wild, back and forth affair that had all the makings of a burgeoning rivalry, even if the Seahawks weren’t quite on par with the 49ers in that 2011 season. Chris and Kyle discuss the key players, key plays, and all the warning signs that the 49ers and Seahawks would be must-see TV for the following couple of seasons. They also have some fun looking back on some of the things going on during the 2011 season.
