Rutgers football is looking to rebound on Saturday against a Michigan State program that has its own priorities, namely avenging their season-opening loss to the Scarlet Knights a year ago.

Last season, the Greg Schiano 2.0 era kicked off in strong fashion as Rutgers forced seven turnovers in a surprise 38-27 win in East Lansing. That win set the tone for a season where Rutgers exceeded expectations, going 3-6 in a rebuilding year.

The Michigan State team that rolls into SHI Stadium on Saturday, however, doesn’t look or feel like the program that got rolled over in their 2020 season opener.

The Spartans are No. 11 in the nation and 5-0, fresh off a 48-31 win over Western Kentucky this past weekend. Michigan State already has a signature win on the season, beating Miami on the road in a big statement game for both the program and the Big Ten as a whole.

With that being said, here are five reasons why Rutgers has the potential to pull off an upset against Michigan State.
