It’s no secret the Washington Redskins have a culture problem.
Or for Dan Snyder, the hope is that sort of statement quickly becomes past-tense in the near future after the hiring of Ron Rivera.
Snyder has even said as much too.
Les Carpenter of the Washington Post sat down with Angel Franco of the Dallas Morning News and noted the following:
“In making the move, Snyder acknowledged a toxic culture that many former employees, players and coaches had referenced in recent years. Snyder pursued Rivera because he had come to believe in a coach-centric organization like New England, Seattle and Kansas City have and thought Rivera’s strict but inclusive approach would bring a positive change to his team.”
Now it’s no secret the Redskins have had a serious problem in this regard for a while in many ways. That would explain the dismissal of Bruce Allen and the complete restructuring of the front office, not just the changes to the coaching staff.
It’s also not a secret most in the NFL view Rivera as the man for this sort of job. He wore out his welcome in Carolina largely because of the results on the field, not the cultural side of things.
Much of this culture Snyder wants to change happened under his watch, though, so it’s encouraging that most of the moves so far hint that Rivera has full control.
And if that’s the case, Snyder may indeed actually get what he wants. — in time.
