At Arizona State, N’Keal Harry was known for catching jump balls and being the bigger, stronger athlete in most scenarios.

His 6-foot-4, 225 pound frame is part of the reason Bill Belichick drafted him in the first round last season. That’s why Newton trusted him last week against the Los Angeles Rams to come down with a tough contested catch over cornerback Darious Williams.

The catch went for 30 yards and it was in a clutch moment when the Patriots were backed up to a 2nd-and-20 in the third quarter. He showed a flashback of his college days and Cam Newton appreciated the strong catch on the play.

“He’s getting better. He’s growing,” Newton said to reporters on Thursday, transcribed by NESN. “It’s very promising to see a guy like N’Keal make a play like that. We’re going to need more of that here moving forward.”

Newton has a name for receivers who have this capability.

“It’s just a chance. In essence, a slogan or a saying you give a receiver is a ‘Chance Man.’ Just give him a chance, man,” Newton said. “That was a ‘Chance Man’ type throw and he came down with it.”

Harry finished the game with three catches for 49 yards and it was one of the better performances in his young career. In a difficult season, he’s recorded 29 receptions for 277 yards and two touchdown over the span of 11 games.

Newton and Harry have three more games to test their connection before some huge offseason moves are made.
