Cam Newton praises Patriots: ‘It’s now time for me to uphold my end of the bargain’

Cam Newton praised the New England Patriots organization, while acknowledging it’s time to perform in 2021

Heading into his second season with the New England Patriots, quarterback Cam Newton knows that it’s time to produce under center.

Appearing on the Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin Show Thursday, Newton indicated that he knows it is time for him to play at a high level.

Newton had a dismal 2020 season that saw him record eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He did fare a bit better on the ground, tallying 592 rushing yards. Nevertheless, it was not enough to prevent New England from missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Newton feels as though he owes it to the Patriots to play sound football heading in 2021. As transcribed by Mike Reiss of ESPN, the quarterback knows he has to produce.

“I know who I am. At times, I do remind myself people forget who you are, and what you’ve done. So now I’m a position now where I need to be my best self. It’s really put-up or shut-up time.”

“For me, the Patriots’ organization has been impeccable … so my time there has been everything I could have asked for. I guess it’s now time for me to uphold my end of the bargain, through and through.”

With rookie quarterback Mac Jones making strides over the past couple of weeks, Newton will at the very least have some competition heading into training camp. This could prove to be a critical year for Newton and the Patriots alike.
