Cam Newton posts festive message for his critics on Wednesday

Panthers great Cam Newton tried to spread some holiday cheer after drawing a bit of ire on Wednesday.

Cam Newton may have just pissed off a lot of people. But now, he just wants to spread the holiday cheer.

The Carolina Panthers great received quite a bit of criticism on Wednesday for comments he made about four NFL quarterbacks in a YouTube video last week. In an episode of his show 4th & 1, Newton classified Dallas’ Dak Prescott, San Francisco’s Brock Purdy, Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Detroit’s Jared Goff as “game managers.”

In case you’re not acquainted with the term, “game manager” can refer to a quarterback who isn’t considered a superstar-level talent and doesn’t necessarily elevate the players around him. Quite simply, he’s not there to win the game on his own merit, he’s there not to lose it.

So, of course, it’s often perceived as a backhanded compliment in the football world. And after a 49ers fan dug up Newton’s thoughts and posted them in a 50-second clip, the former Most Valuable Player drew the ire of many.

Newton, however, had a . . . ummm . . . festive message for all the critical fans and talking heads out there on Wednesday night:

Well, happy holidays!
