Cam Newton completely shut down all the ridiculous criticism of Caleb Williams with one quote

If anybody knows a thing or two about weird criticisms it’s Cam Newton.

To this point, it’s felt like most of the critiques of Caleb Williams have had nothing to do with football.

People have had more to say about his painted nails and pink phone than anything about his style of play. Scouts were ready to ding him for crying in his mom’s arms after a meaningless regular season loss at USC as opposed to admiring how much he actually cared about winning.

Almost every critique has somehow centered around him being “soft” or “selfish” because of his personality. It’s completely ridiculous and has absolutely nothing to do with how good he is at football. None of that will matter once his name is called.

That’s why Cam Newton isn’t here for any of it.

If anyone knows what it’s like to be critiqued for things that have nothing to do with football, it’s him.

In the absolute prime of Newton’s career, he was critiqued for dancing, wearing funny hats and generally being outspoken. None of that criticism came from a good place, as USA Today’s Nancy Armour wrote back then.

The same can be said for today’s silly critiques of Williams. That’s why it’s not shocking at all that Newton staunchly shut those critiques down on Good Morning Football.

“Whatever a person does personally, should just matter personally. If it starts bleeding into their play? Then you can care. But as I’m seeing these highlights of Caleb Williams, Pink nails, red nails, green nails, no nails… If you can play football and you can win football games in that locker room and for that franchise, nothing else matters.”

Spot on. No notes.
