Auburn freshman wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] has major expectations heading into his first season on the Plains after an illustrious high school career that landed him a five-star prospect ranking. Those expectations progressed on Monday, as On3 tabbed Coleman as one of their three Preseason Freshmen All-American Team receivers.
Coleman, who “is one of the best receiver prospects of the internet recruiting era” according to On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power, headlines a very talented trio of freshman receivers including Ohio State‘s Jeremiah Smith and Alabama‘s Ryan Williams.
Still, at just 18 years old, Coleman is set to become a vital part of Auburn’s passing attack as a freshman this season. With his chemistry with quarterback Payton Thorne reportedly growing, the Alabama native could quickly become a hometown favorite for Tiger fans.
Coleman hauled in 92 receptions for 1,914 yards and 24 touchdowns across two seasons of varsity football for Central High School in Phenix City, AL. The majority of those statistics came during his senior season last year, when he vaulted himself into one of the top-receiving recruits in the country.
While defenses in the SEC are more advanced than those in high school, Coleman has all the talent and tools to become a weapon in Hugh Freeze’s offense right away. He’ll get the first chance to validate his placement on the Freshman All-American Team when Auburn hosts Alabama A&M on August 31.
