Cam Akers and Cooper Kupp named fantasy sleepers by ESPN

Is Cooper Kupp really a sleeper after finishing as WR4 in fantasy last year?

Two Rams staples in fantasy football will be wearing different uniforms this season after the team parted ways with both Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks this spring. Their departures open the door for a few other players’ roles to grow, however, including Cam Akers, Van Jefferson and Josh Reynolds.

Cooper Kupp also stands to benefit from Cooks’ absence from the lineup, likely leading to more targets coming his way. But should Kupp really be considered a sleeper after he broke out in 2019 with 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns, finishing as WR4?

That’s up for debate, but ESPN believes he is somewhat underrated in fantasy. The site polled 11 fantasy experts and asked them to name fantasy sleepers and busts at each position. Akers and Kupp were selected as sleepers at their respective positions – Akers by Keith Lipscomb and Kupp by Tom Carpenter.

No Rams were named potential busts, which is encouraging. But after looking at their top fantasy players, it’s hard to see anyone as a bust in 2020. Kupp and Robert Woods should continue on an upward trajectory, while Akers stands to make a name for himself in place of Todd Gurley – who was named a running back bust by two analysts.

Darrell Henderson may not break out in the way some are expecting him to, but it’s hard to see him as a bust considering where he’s being drafted in fantasy. Could Tyler Higbee take a step back after a meteoric rise in December? It’s possible, but he shouldn’t be viewed as a bust.

This Rams offense, led by Jared Goff, should improve in 2020 as long as the offensive line gets better. If it regresses, though, Goff and his offensive weapons might leave some fantasy owners disappointed.
