The outlook for the 2024 USC football team isn’t good after a loss to Minnesota. However, on Sundays, Trojan fans are seeing some positive stories emerge in the NFL. We know all about Sam Darnold going 5-0 with the Minnesota Vikings. Darnold picked the perfect landing spot after spending 2023 behind Brock Purdy with the San Francisco 49ers. Darnold needed to find the right place where he would receive quality coaching and have the teammates in place to help him thrive. The Vikings have turned out to be a great choice by Darnold, who is giving himself a chance to revive his career and pursue a championship. All while Darnold rises in Minnesota, Caleb Williams has endured a much more bumpy ride in Chicago with the Bears. Caleb and the Bears’ offense were flat-out bad in the first three weeks of the season. However, “Happy might be learning how to putt,” as the saying goes. There are signs that Caleb Williams is beginning to see, feel, and process the NFL game properly. Bears Wire has more on this, specifically Caleb establishing a better rapport with receiver DJ Moore:
Since then, it’s been nothing smiles for the pair. In Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers, Moore led the Bears with 105 yards and two receiving touchdowns. The second of which just so happened to be the best of Williams five-game career — and a “dot” according to Moore. Seeing Moore so pumped afterwards gives Bears fans the hope they’ve been yearning for since the offseason.
“Having a special player like [DJ] on your team, you obviously want to get him the ball and let him just be DJ and be special. It felt really good,” Williams said postgame about his connection with Moore. “We were super excited. We got to the sideline and we are both like, finally, we’re able to hit something like that.”
Caleb threw this dart to Moore which showed the potential of both players: Caleb in seeing the field and reading the defense, Moore in getting open and making himself an elite target for Caleb Williams within the Bears’ offense.
It’s early in the season, but there is certainly a chance that Caleb Williams and Sam Darnold could meet with the NFC North title on the line. The Vikings are the NFC North favorite. The Bears will have to do a lot of work to put themselves in position to contend for the division, but at 3-2, they are at least in the mix. If they can continue to improve, who knows how big the two Bears-Vikings games will be this season?
