Caleb Williams named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week

From @RutgersWire: Caleb Williams was one of just six players to make the latest edition of the Maxwell Award honor roll.

Our friends at Rutgers Wire noticed this news item from the past week: USC quarterback Caleb Williams is one of six college football players to land on the most recent edition of the Maxwell Award honor roll. He was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week in Week 2.

Williams has had a brilliant start to the 2022 season. Yes, Rice and Stanford are not heavyweights — maybe even not welterweights — but it remains that Williams has taken a blowtorch to opposing defenses and seems poised to light up the scoreboard throughout the 2022 season. His place on the Maxwell Award shortlist is entirely deserved and richly earned.

“Building off an impressive debut a week ago, Williams showcased in his strong and efficient performance why he might just be the top quarterback in college football,” Rutgers Wire editor Kristian Dyer wrote. “In a 41-28 win at Stanford, Williams was 20-of-27 for 341 yards with four passing touchdowns. He was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his performance.”

Caleb Williams and the USC offense will try to continue to produce at an elite level.
