Caleb Williams named Associated Press preseason All-America First Team QB

Nothing about this is surprising. Caleb Williams now tries to produce a season worthy of his status.

USC Trojan quarterback Caleb Williams will try to make history this season. Yes, that history includes the possibility that Williams will become just the second man to win back-to-back Heisman Trophies. However, the real history Caleb is courting is the chance to lift USC football into the four-team College Football Playoff for the first time. The Trojans have not made the four-team playoff since it was put in place in 2014. This will be the last year with a four-team playoff before the field expands to 12 in 2024.

As Williams pursues history, preseason recognition is widespread. Williams was named to the preseason edition of the Associated Press All-America First Team at quarterback. He was the only Trojan on the first team, joining two Washington Huskies plus one Colorado Buffalo and one Stanford Cardinal from the Pac-12.

There is little if any question that Caleb Williams is the best quarterback in college football. All that remains is for him to play like it and get just enough help from his defense this fall.
