Caleb Williams credits swimming with different arm angle throws

Caleb Williams has put in the work to help him make unique plays when it really counts.

The wait until Caleb Williams plays a live NFL game for the Chicago Bears is getting shorter. You have probably seen comparisons to Patrick Mahomes as part of Caleb Williams’ overall profile heading into his NFL rookie season. That Mahomes comparison comes from the instances in which Caleb throws from a different arm angle to wedge a ball between defenders and into a receiver’s hands. That happened at a recent Bears practice in summer camp. Everyone was impressed by what Williams was able to do.

This ability is partly the product of a natural feel for the game and an inclination to improvise which we saw at USC. However, this is not entirely the result of raw, instinctive genius. It is also the creation of hard work and an intent to develop flexibility and agility.

Reporter Courtney Cronin has more on how swimming helped Caleb Williams develop the physical capacity to be able to do so many different things on a football field.
