Washington has dipped into the South for their latest commit as part of a recent hot streak on the recruiting trail.
Three-star defensive lineman Caleb Smith, a 6-foot-4, 265 pounder out of Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, announced his commitment to the Huskies on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday. He was among Washington’s most recent batch of official visitors, a weekend that has continued to pay dividends for Jedd Fisch and his staff.
Smith will likely play both at defensive tackle and on the edge for the Huskies, continuing a trend of versatile defensive linemen that has produced dividends for Washington over the last few years.
The Huskies are now 1-0 in head-to-head Big Ten recruiting battles, as Washington beat out Purdue for Smith’s commitment. Smith visited Purdue the weekend before he came to Montlake.
“I loved it up there,” Smith told 247Sports after his official visit. “The coaches there are always great to talk to and my parents came with me and they enjoyed themselves too.”
He joins edge rushers Victor Sanchez Hernandez and Devin Hyde and defensive lineman Dominic Macon as the Huskies’ fourth defensive line recruit in the 2025 class. Washington has also added linebacker Donovan Robinson, cornerback D’Aryhian Clemons, and linebacker Jonathan Epperson in a defensive class that did not have a commit until Hyde announced his pledge on June 11.
Washington is now up to sixteen commitments in the 2025 class.
