The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team wasted no time getting their first statement win of the season. The Hawkeyes’ 80-76 win over No. 5 Virginia Tech signaled to the rest of the country that Iowa is once again primed to be in the mix as a national title contender all year long.
Led by Caitlin Clark’s 44 points, the Hawkeyes had a strong second half in their early season resume-boosting win. On the other side, Virginia Tech’s Georgia Amoore didn’t disappoint in her 31-point showing.
Following the matchup, the two had high praises for each other’s performances showing what women’s college basketball can and should be. Mitchell Norman of For The Win captured the fantastic postgame comments.
“She’s literally been gifted by every God you can imagine. She’s insane… She’s a generational talent,” Amoore said when discussing Clark’s play.
Clark also let the world know just how impressed she was with Amoore’s outing and doing everything in her power to keep the Hokies in this one.
“In the fourth, it got exciting. We were trading threes and it felt like that’s what both teams are about is really great offense… Georgia is one of the best guards in the country. I think that’s pretty obvious,” Clark said when appreciating Amoore’s night.
Caitlin Clark, by the way, was complimentary of Georgia Amoore too.
