Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever ascend in ESPN WNBA Power Rankings

Things are starting to click.

Following an 88-82 win over the Phoenix Mercury on the road, the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark suddenly have a little bit of something going.

Things are clicking and the Fever have climbed back to an overall record of 8-12 after an abysmal start. After losing their first five games and eventually finding themselves with an overall record of 2-9, the Fever have won five of their last seven games.

This improvement has them climbing in the ESPN WNBA Power Rankings. The Fever currently sit at No. 6 in the rankings.

6. Indiana Fever (8-12)

Previous ranking: 8

This week: @ LV (July 2), vs. NY (July 6)

The Fever lost at Seattle on Thursday, after which coach Christie Sides said she wants Clark to try to average 15 shots a game. Clark has had at least 15 attempts from the field just six times, the most recent being her 30-point performance at Washington on June 7. She got close Sunday (14). But her passing was the biggest key in beating Phoenix; she had a combined 19 assists in the two games last week. And while she had six turnovers against the Mercury, none of them were in the crucial fourth quarter. – Michael Voepel, ESPN

This jump comes as a two-spot climb after previously sitting at No. 8. With an 8-12 overall record, the Fever also currently hold the final playoff spot, which would be a stark turnaround from their last two seasons.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are back in action on Tuesday, July 2 when they travel to take on the Las Vegas Aces and former Hawkeye Kate Martin at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
