Caitlin Clark comments on pairing with Angel Reese as teammates in 2024 WNBA All-Star Game

Caitlin Clark commented on teaming with Angel Reese for the first time in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will be teammates for the first time in their basketball careers at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game.

Both Clark and Reese will represent Team WNBA as part of the 12-player roster squaring off against Team USA. That’s after Clark was the top fan vote-getter and Reese finished fifth in fan voting.

For women’s basketball fans, seeing the pair on the same squad for the first time will be quite the treat. Given their histories with one another in high-stakes games, it will be fun to see the duo teaming up instead of battling against one another for a change.

Asked about teaming up with Reese for the first time after the Indiana Fever’s recent contest at the Las Vegas Aces, Clark hoped that their pairing wouldn’t overshadow everything else at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been her teammate before even with USA Basketball or anything like that, so I know people are going to be really excited about it but I hope it doesn’t take away from everybody else. This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everybody on Team WNBA. They all deserve the same praise. I don’t want it to take away from any of that and just be the focal point of All-Star weekend, because that’s not fair to them.

“Obviously, this is something that’s really hard to accomplish, so the best we can celebrate all of them will be great. I’m just going to obviously soak in the experience because you never know if you’re going to be able to get back there and it’ll be fun for all of us, for sure,” Clark said.

Clark and Reese are the first pair of rookies to be named All-Stars in the same season since 2014.

Each are enjoying record-setting rookie campaigns. Clark is averaging 16.0 points, 7.1 assists, 5.7 rebound and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 39.1% from the field, 33.7% from 3-point range and 88.5% from the free throw line.

Along the way, it feels like Clark is setting either new Indiana Fever mark or WNBA rookie marks left and right.

Meanwhile, Reese has been a double-doubles machine, registering a WNBA record 11 straight double-doubles.

The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game will take place on Saturday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. CT on ABC. It features the 12-player Team WNBA squad against the USA Basketball Women’s National Team.
