After a trio of standout performances during Iowa’s march to the Gulf Coast Showcase tournament title, Hawkeye senior guard Caitlin Clark has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week.
It’s the 20th time in Clark’s career that she’s garnered the honor. That is the second-most weekly honors in league history.
Clark led No. 6 Iowa to the tournament championship over No. 22 Kansas State with 32 points on 10-of-25 shooting against the Wildcats in the Hawkeyes’ 77-70 victory. It included a pair of key 3-pointers in the game’s final two minutes to guide the Hawkeyes to the winner’s circle.
Clark knocked down 7-of-16 tries from beyond the arc against K-State. The 6-foot guard from West Des Moines added six assists, five rebounds and three steals against K-State.
It was a return to form for Clark against the Wildcats. During K-State’s upset win over Iowa on Nov. 16, Clark finished 9-of-32 from the field and just 2-of-16 from downtown.

In Iowa’s tournament run, Clark averaged 27.3 points, 6.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Clark was named the Gulf Coast Showcase Most Valuable Player.
Clark tallied her 40th career game with 30 or more points against the Wildcats, too. She has made a 3-pointer in 66 straight games.
“We played three games in three days, which is great preparation for our Big Ten Tournament where we have to do the same sort of thing. I am really proud of our team and their focus going from day to day to day.
“It’s mentally and physically taxing playing three games in three days, and I thought they did a great job on handling that. Kansas State is a great team and it feels really good to get the redemption win,” Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said of the tournament run.
Iowa returns to action against Bowling Green on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 12:30 p.m. CT from inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
