Cade Klubnik soars into CBS Sports college football Top 10 quarterback rankings

Clemson starting quarterback Cade Klubnik is a top-tier quarterback after Week 2.

Cade Klubnik delivered one of the most impressive performances in recent Clemson history during the Tigers’ 66-20 win over Appalachian State.

The junior quarterback led the offense to a commanding victory with a seven-touchdown performance, all of which came in the first half. Klubnik threw for five touchdowns and added two more on the ground, effectively putting the game out of reach before halftime. His play set the tone for a dominant showing from Clemson, as they overwhelmed the Mountaineers early on.

Klubnik’s precision and leadership were on full display, starting with a 76-yard touchdown pass to freshman Bryant Wesco, followed by a series of scoring drives that showcased his versatility. He connected with Jake Briningstool and Antonio Williams for key touchdown passes and showed his ability to make plays on the ground. Reflecting on this performance, Klubnik’s seven-touchdown effort not only secured a blowout victory but also highlighted his growth and potential as the leader of Clemson’s offense.

One week after Klubnik was getting beat up for his performance against Georgia, he was praised for his performance against App State, and it was well deserved. That Georgia game was brutal, and for a young quarterback to recover the way Klubnik did, well, that’s impressive.

CBS Sports updated their Top 10 quarterback power rankings, with Klubnik flying up to No. 9.

I have never been shy about sharing my opinion of Klubnik. In short, I’m not particularly high on him. Still, even if he was shellacked by Georgia and played poorly, I won’t ignore the bounce-back performance. Klubnik picked himself up, dusted himself off and then dusted Appalachian State for 383 yards and seven (7!) touchdowns. I’m not buying in until he does it against the best competition, but I’m also not a monster. (LW: NR)

It’s pretty tough to ignore a performance like that, huh? It was a beautiful thing to see for Clemson fans, but the work is not done. Klubnik needs to prove that he can play consistently at this level. Maybe not 383 yards and seven touchdowns in a half consistency, but playing well game in and game out.

The rest of the season could be incredibly exciting after what we saw from Klubik.
