The Houston Texans are trying to instill a particular culture throughout NRG Stadium, and how the organization believes they can achieve it is to collect as many veterans from other successful clubs.
One of those veterans is 30-year-old Justin Britt. The former Seattle Seahawks center got a second chance to continue his career following an ACL tear that knocked him out of the 2019 campaign after eight games and kept him out of the NFL for 2020.
Britt was part of the cavalcade of veterans who signed one-year deals with Houston in 2021, but managed to start in all 11 of his games played for the Texans at center. Although Britt’s future with Houston was uncertain throughout the 2022 offseason, the former Seahawks 2014 second-round selection managed to find his way back to the AFC South club.
Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is pleased to have the 6-6, 315-pound offensive lineman back as he helps instill the culture Houston wants to form.
“Field credibility it matters in our locker room,” said Hamilton on April 12. “Justin Britt, he’s a guy that has played a lot of snaps in this league and ultimately, he’s a reference point for some of the younger players that have a chance to contribute to our offense and franchise.
“Having guys like Justin that have been around, who have had the chance to face some of the best defensive lineman in the league over the years, to bounce ideas off or just to watch and emulate is going to help our young guys.”
One of the guys that can learn from Britt is second-year offensive lineman Jimmy Morrissey, who started four games at center while Britt worked his way through a knee injury in 2021. While Britt’s career may not last forever, the Texans are hopeful he is able to help lay the foundation for the type of attitude Houston needs in order to start winning and stay successful.
