Burrow, Bengals prepare for ‘Battle of Ohio’ on NFL’s 100th birthday

It’s been a busy week for former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who played his first NFL game in a 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Now, he’s hitting the road with the Cincinnati Bengals to take on the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night for the “Battle of Ohio” on a date which also marks the NFL’s 100 birthday.

Burrow, who started his football career in Athens, Ohio, is no stranger to the rivalry.

“I know the history behind it,” he said in a report from AP’s Tom Withers. “Excited for my first one.”

The signal-caller will be looking to bounce back — at least for himself — after he gave himself a grade of ‘D’ for his debut on Sunday after a showing that most were plenty pleased with.

“In my eyes I played terrible through 3 1/2 quarters and then played up to my standards in the last drive and almost won the game,” he said. “I know I’ll be ready for it and I just have to keep that same mindset in the two-minute drill and bring that along for the rest of the season.”

Burrow finished that game, completing 23-of-26 passes for 193 yards with one rushing touchdown and one interception.

The Browns will aim to completely redeem themselves heading into the matchup after an ugly 38-6 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield told reporters the team “hurt themselves,” as he completed 21-of-39 passes for 189 yards with one touchdown and a lone interception.

The Browns and Bengals are set to kick off at 7:20 p.m. CST at FirstEnergy Stadium.
