As the 2024/25 Spring Mountain Race Series approaches its midpoint, racers looked to write their final chapter of the year by taking on the highly demanding 2.63-mile Charleston Peak South course configuration for a December race weekend. Racecraft and lap times have steadily improved throughout the season, but cooler temperatures required a delicate dance as drivers would need to build up speed until their tires gradually achieved optimal grip.

Twenty-one drivers in a diverse range of machinery filled the Sports Car Series grids for the weekend’s two races.

In the GTU class, newcomer Sam Yu showcased his talent by securing third place in his Ferrari, finishing behind Michael Reynolds, who took second place, and overall winner Mark Ramsay. Throughout the weekend, Reynolds and Ramsay fought fiercely, but Ramsay’s incredibly fast laps kept him at the top of the podium and the championship leaderboard.

In the GT4 class, newcomer Jack Parriott stood out in his Aston Martin, narrowly securing second place over Paul Chamberlain after impressively grabbing pole position for Race 2. Capturing first place was Henry Marshall in his Porsche Cayman, thanks to his consistent lap times throughout qualifying and the races. Marshall continues to rise in the points standings for a shot at the championship.

In the GTL class, Chad Lancaster achieved a milestone win by securing his first victory in the class. Lancaster’s consistent racing continues to extend his points lead over Blake Olsen as the season approaches its halfway mark. Nick Khilnani had an impressive race in his season debut, capturing second place ahead of Karen Wonnenberg.

Radical Cup Challenge once again delivered close racing, with the standout drivers widening their leads in the championship standings.

In the Gold class, Steven Thomas rose to the occasion by clinching third place following his debut in November. A proficient IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar competitor, Thomas commended the high competition and skill present in the Spring Mountain Race Series paddock. Mark Rohrwasser secured second place, striving to close the gap on Brandon Rambo. Nonetheless, Rambo achieved first place, maintaining a decisive 10-second lead in every race this month.

In the Silver class, Nancy Bullock made her season debut following a remarkable stint as last season’s Rookie champion. She showcased her speed by achieving the fastest qualifying laps in her class on both days; however, despite this, she ultimately placed third for the weekend after spinning in Turn 1 and retiring from the race alongside Doug Ramirez.

Meanwhile, Brian Reynolds held onto his points lead with a second-place finish, but Jim Mason stole the spotlight, competing fiercely with Gold Class rivals and securing first place for the weekend. Although Reynolds leads overall, he must keep a close watch on Mason, who is also in the hunt for the championship title.

In the Rookie class, Jason Horwitz continues to increase his speed while discovering how to refine his on-track driving. For the second consecutive month, Horwitz claimed first place, with Sohaib Kureshi finishing in second. As a result, Horwitz now holds the lead in points for the class.
