Buffs’ NCAA Tournament chances remain low despite Arizona victory

CU will likely need a strong run in the Pac-12 Tournament to reach March Madness

The Colorado Buffaloes are one of the biggest mixed bags in all of college basketball.

At times, Tad Boyle’s team looks like one of the best in the Pac-12, and Saturday’s massive upset over No. 2 Arizona was telling of that.

On the other hand, games such as the loss to Arizona State leave many in doubt. As we approach the final week of the season, the Buffs are in grave danger of missing the NCAA Tournament altogether.

The upset of Arizona was just their second Quad 1 win of the season and moved them up to No. 78 in the NET rankings, still well outside where you want to be. The uphill battle is now just beginning.

It will now likely take a trip to the Pac-12 title game to get an at-large bid, and even then it is shaky.

Colorado is currently in the hunt for fourth place in the conference and a first round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament. They finish the regular season up with a game against Utah on Saturday before the conference tourney kicks off in Las Vegas.

The likelihood of Colorado making the Big Dance is slim as could be. The Arizona victory would look a whole lot better if it weren’t for the ugly blemish against the Sun Devils.

The Buffs have their work cut out for them when they get to Vegas, and with UCLA, USC and Arizona all being AP Top 25 teams, it won’t be easy at all.
