CAMDEN, N.J. — When one thinks of Philadelphia 76ers guard Buddy Hield, 3-point shooting immediately comes to mind. He is one of the best 3-point shooters the game has seen since he entered the league in 2016.
Through three games with the Sixers, Hield is shooting 44.8% from deep, averaging 22.3 points and 6.7 assists. He has been fantastic playing off the ball and with the ball in his hands. One has to be impressed with what he has brought to the table.
“He’s just got a really good feel offensively — just playing the game,” said coach Nick Nurse at practice on Tuesday. “He not only gets the 3-ball, he’s much more than that. He’s an offensive player. He creates space. He opens up things for others on cuts and moves. He’s a pretty good screen-and-roll player.”
Hield has shown he’s a master at moving without the basketball. He’s able to draw attention from defenders due to his threat to shoot the ball and the Sixers have benefited from it all so far. He also has made the right decisions with the basketball which makes it easy to play with him despite the lack of practice and shootaround time he’s had in Philadelphia.
“He’s a pretty good screen-and-pop player, “Nurse added. “A pretty good slip-out screen player. He has a good flow and rhythm to his movement out there, which is great and probably surprising, yeah.”
The Sixers have one final game before the All-Star break on Wednesday against the Miami Heat.
