Budda Baker is Cardinals’ nominee for Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award

He is certainly a deserving candidate.

The Arizona Cardinals have announced honors for linebacker Jordan Hicks and tackle Kelvin Beachum. Hicks was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his play against the Chicago Bears, while Beachum was named the Cardinals’ Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee.

Another Cardinals player gets an honor as well. The NFL announced the 32 teams’ selection for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Safey Budda Baker is the Cardinals’ selection.

Each NFL team nominated one of its players for the award, which recognizes players around the league who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field. The award was created in 2014 in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr.

Baker is now in the running for the final league award, given the evening before the Super Bowl.

The award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

What’s next?

A panel of former players, which includes Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald, who won the award himself in 2014, will select eight finalists that players will vote for.
