It was to be expected, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to lose another staff member on Tuesday.
ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler reported that Bucs wide receivers coach Brad Idzik is leaving the team to join former Tampa Bay offensive coordinator and current Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales in Charlotte as offensive coordinator. The move has been predicted for some time, but it’s now official.
The loss is another for Tampa Bay’s coaching staff after a 9-8 season that saw the team win a playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Idzik, like Canales, had a big impact, helping to coach WR Mike Evans to one of the best years of his career with a 13-touchdown performance that tied the league lead in 2023. Now, he’s set to join Canales with the Panthers, though it’s unlikely he’ll call plays there with Canales overseeing the offense.
The move leaves yet another spot to fill for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are lacking an offensive coordinator as well. It could also be somewhat of a boon, however, as any potential OC would be able to bring someone he’s familiar with in as WRs coach just as Canales did with Idzik from their time in Seattle in 2023.
