The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are waiving rookie linebacker J.J. Russell, per The Athletic’s Greg Auman.
Russell was impressive throughout training camp and the preseason, but faced an uphill battle to make the Bucs’ initial 53-man roster behind starters Lavonte David and Devin White.
Thanks to his strong showing up to this point, Russell is a prime candidate to return on Tampa Bay’s practice squad, should he clear waivers.
