The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed their first tryout player after the last day of rookie minicamp on Sunday.

FOX Sports’ Greg Auman reported on Sunday that the Buccaneers signed EDGE Markees Watts out of Charlotte. Watts is the 89th player on Tampa Bay’s roster, so the team will likely have to shuffle some things around if it wants to make more additions to create its 90-man roster before preseason begins.

Watts’ best season at Charlotte came in 2019, when he netted 9.5 sacks. He’s had 21.5 sacks across his whole five-year career as a Charlotte 49er, which makes him Charlotte’s all-time sack leader. He also holds the team record for most games played with the program at 54 and he was an honorable mention for All-Conference USA in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
