Baker Mayfield has never lacked confidence during his football life. Every chapter has had a moment where the former Heisman Trophy winner has had to overcome the odds and each step of the way he has.
In 2024, that confidence may reach a new high following his new contract with the team following a career year.
In 2023, Mayfield set a career-high in passing yards (4,004) and touchdowns (28). He parlayed that with a playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles and a strong showing in the NFC Divisional round against the Detroit Lions despite the team suffering a loss. That brings us to how Baker Mayfield is feeling heading into 2024.
“I’m extremely confident – extremely confident in the guys we have doing it. . .it’s been good to see that it’s transferred not just to the first group when we’re out there but the second and third groups are really translating it from the practice field to the game field. So for us, [there’s] a lot of confidence and I’m expecting that, and I know the guys are too.”
The confidence remaining despite Dave Canales’s departure is reassuring to everyone. Mayfield has seemingly stepped up into an even larger leadership role and has the entire Bucs offense ready for another special season.
The offense and Bucs will go as far as Mayfield can lead them. Entering year seven for the veteran quarterback, he has his eyes set on something only Brad Johnson and Tom Brady have led the team to.
