The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be getting a massive holiday gift this week.
Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen has been designated for return from injured reserve, opening up a 21-day window during which he can return to practice and be activated to the 53-man roster.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times was the first to report the news late Tuesday night, and the team made it official Wednesday morning.
Jensen suffered a knee injury on the second day of training camp, but the Bucs waited to place him on injured reserve until the regular season began, leaving open the slim possibility that he would be able to return late in the year.
It appears those hopes are paying off, as Jensen will now get the chance to test out his knee and see if he’s able to return for a potential playoff run.
Jensen could be eligible to play as soon as this Sunday’s regular-season home finale against the Carolina Panthers, a game in which the Bucs can clinch the NFC South title with a victory.
