The NFL got the last laugh on this one.

The NFL handed out a single fine for Super Bowl LV and it went to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender.

Late in the game, Bucs DB Antoine Winfield Jr. deflected a pass and proceeded to stand over Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill, flashing Hill’s signature peace sign. The play was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, one of just four penalties called on the Bucs during the game.

The NFL review the penalty and decided to issue a fine of $7,815 to Winfield according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Frankly, Winfield will probably gladly trade that amount for getting the chance to exact some revenge on Hill, who had it coming after Week 12.

During Hill’s monster first quarter against the Bucs in Week 12, he flashed the peace sign and even did a backflip in the endzone. Well, it’s pretty clear that Winfield remembered that and didn’t take it too kindly. He said after the Super Bowl that he felt compelled to taunt because of that.

“The taunting, it was just something I had to do,” Winfield told reporters. “When we played them earlier, Hill went off on us. He backflipped in front of my face and gave me the peace sign, so it was only right that I gave him the peace sign back to him at this moment. It felt amazing to be able to do that.”

His admission and reasoning for the taunting probably had something to do with his fine too.
