Realignment is once again the talk of the college athletics world as Oregon and Washington are the latest teams to make a move to the Big Ten. With the Pac-12 losing members already, and likely more coming, the landscape of college athletics is rapidly changing.
For the Atlantic Coast Conference, it’s already been an eventful week with Florida State attempting to get out if it can. That and the talk of where the conference stands has been at the forefront.
But on Friday, North Carolina athletics director Bubba Cunningham told his athletic department where things stand with the Tar Heels and their future. And it stands with the ACC.
Per Luke DeCock of the News & Observer, Cunningham reassured the department that UNC is NOT leaving the ACC:
“The ACC’s a great league for us. We have no plans to leave the ACC. We’re going to strengthen the ACC and do everything we can to make our league as good as we possibly can. … I’m not going to look over my shoulder at what we don’t have.”
While things are never set in stone, especially with realignment, we do now have somewhat of an answer as to what UNC plans to do. But what does the ACC plan to do with the landscape of conferences changing around them?
They better figure that out, quickly.
