What does it feel like to be the first overall pick of the NFL draft? You could ask Bryce Young, but he’s still trying to figure that out.
After being selected by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night, Young was posed with that question by team reporter Kristen Balboni—who asked if he’s used to be called No. 1.
“No, not at all,” he replied laughingly. “This is all very, very new. It’s still surreal. I’m still trying to figure everything out. But it’s a huge blessing. This is an amazing moment. I’m just super grateful for the opportunity.”
That opportunity will see him take over under center for the Panthers, something he’s pretty hyped up for.
“I mean, I’m super excited,” he said. “Being in the building, I was able to be there while the players were back for my visit. And you could really tell the competitive spirit. You can tell that everyone was focused. It was a really cool group of guys that were driven and I’ve heard that echoed from a lot of different people. And that means a lot.
“And being able to talk to everyone there—from the staff to the front office. Hearing about what they want from the quarterback position, their philosophies in coaching and just how involved and invested they are. Having Mr. Tepper there and having the coaches all—it really permeates throughout the building.”
Well, there’s no more visiting that building, Bryce. Now, you’re a part of it.
Get to know him.
