Bryan Harsin has hit the ground running during his first year coaching the Auburn Tigers.
After the big win against Ole Miss, folks throughout the SEC are whispering his name when the SEC Coach of the Year topic is brought up.
This was a conversation on the “Locked On Auburn” podcast this week when Chris Gody of “Locked On SEC” joined the show to talk about how Auburn looked from a conference perspective.
“In my mind, when we do the coach of the year stuff, it always needs to be, what were the expectations?’Coming into the year, we expected Georgia to kill it. Somebody said this morning that Nick Saban could really win it every year if we were just going based on performance because Alabama is always good and they always are right up there as either undefeated or one loss.
“If we are just talking about teams that have exceeded our expectations, I think Kentucky with Mark Stoops, and that took a little bit of a dip this past week losing like they against Mississippi State. I don’t know if he’ll get many votes but Joh Huepel just taking what he had at Tennesee and making them relevant, that’s been incredible with that offense with all of the pieces that they lost. That’s been interesting.
“But I don’t know how you can’t go with Bryan Harsin as the driver for coach of the year in my mind because I can’t go Kirby (Smart) because we expected them to be this good.”
Harsin is in a prime spot to win the award and if his Tigers are able to head over to College Station to beat Texas A&M this weekend, he will be the clear-cut favorite for the remainder of the season.
